Creating safer, more effective K9 teams

Spike’s School is proud to present the East Coast Disaster Course—an immersive experience combining Wilderness and USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) training for SAR K9 handlers. Instructed by the CFTE and Crystal Clear K9, this comprehensive program will equip teams to locate and extract individuals in both rugged backcountry terrain and disaster-stricken urban settings. By refining K9 detection skills, enhancing handler preparedness, and practicing advanced rescue techniques, participants will be ready to tackle real-world emergencies. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re able to offer this specialized training that builds stronger, safer K9 teams—ultimately saving more lives.

Qualifications:
To be considered for Spike’s School, the applicant (and K9) must be an active and certified member of their department or organization.

Spike’s Fitness Test:
Arrive prepared. This was a theme in our Founder’s former line of work that remains with us today. We believe it is important to be prepared for the job at hand. As a requirement for each course sponsorship, we are asking every applicant, with their K9 on lead, to complete a 1-mile hike while wearing a duty kit (or something similar in weight, i.e., rucksack, backpack, etc.) in 20 minutes or less for SAR handlers. Each applicant will be tested on the first morning of the workshop before the course begins.
